MAKE YOUR HOME SUMMER READY WITH ORBIT HOMES

Orbit Homes Display

Living in Queensland, it's common to have a love-hate relationship with the warm summer weather. Ensuring your home is prepared for the spike in temperature can make all the difference to your comfort throughout the hotter months.

Spearheading the design of Orbit Homes' multi award-winning Galleria 262 display at Everleigh is interior designer Zoe McGregor. In our recent blog, we spoke with Zoe about key features and considerations when designing a spacious and functional home in preparation for summer.

Bringing the Outdoors In

“Light and ventilation can make all the difference when transitioning from spring to summer. We want to maintain a sense of openness in the home while regulating the temperature indoors,” says Zoe.

"Strategically placing a pergola that opens to a seamlessly integrated indoor-outdoor entertainment area ensures you have ventilation coming in and a shaded area to enjoy as you walk out.”

“Imagine catching refreshing breezes indoors and being able to step outside to a shady oasis in the summer heat.”

“Pergolas are also great for decorating, so you may hang your favourite Christmas decorations during the festive season or twinkling fairy lights for something that can be used year-round and add an extra touch to your outdoor space.”

Windows, Doors and Sheer Curtains

“Large glass doors and windows bring natural light in to evoke an open and summery feel to your home but, during summer, an abundance of light can compromise functionality when seeking to keep your home cool,” says Zoe

“I recommend sheer curtains to add a soft resort feel that’s especially tranquil when a summer breeze gently flows through your home. This allows light to filter in, while protecting your home from the full effect of the summer sun.”

“Sheer curtains also add a dreamy aesthetic to your home and strike the perfect balance between openness and intimacy, contributing to a well-rounded and harmonious living space.”

Practical Outdoor Furniture

“Much like our skin, which bears the brunt of the sun's rays, outdoor furniture is also subject to fading and wear,” says Zoe

“As you gear up for the summer transformation of your living spaces, consider light-colored outdoor furniture and upholstery for sun-exposed spots to mitigate the impact of fading, and darker-toned pieces for shaded areas.”

“By selecting the right furniture for your outdoor spaces, you’ll achieve a stylish and resilient summer-ready entertainment area.”

The latest trend: Mediterranean

“This season, we're all about embracing the timeless charm of the Mediterranean. Linens with crisp whites, calming blues, and neutral patterns come together to evoke the breezy essence of coastal living,” says Zoe.

“Of course, no Mediterranean-inspired trend is complete without the classic touch of lemons, adding a zest of vibrancy to the palette.”

“The refreshing look sets the tone for a summer style that's both sophisticated and laid-back, capturing the spirit of the Mediterranean right in the heart of your living space.”

Accessorising for a summer oasis

“My go-to outdoor accessories blend practicality and style, offering versatility across seasons. Durable and easy-to-clean weatherproof scatters and cushions, adorned with tropical prints, add a touch of summer flair,” says Zoe.

“Moving inside, with the rising popularity of the Mediterranean style, I suggest a trend-aligned addition to your interiors—indoor plants. Adding greenery inside seamlessly ties together your indoor and outdoor styling, providing an open and welcoming feel.”

“The Calathea Orbifolia (commonly known as the Prayer Plant), with its lush tropical leaves, is stealing the spotlight, while the olive tree is also gaining traction for those seeking a rustic touch.”

Designing the Galleria 262

“Last month, Orbit Homes took home gold for the Master Builder Queensland Award for our Galleria 262 display at Everleigh. Due to the smaller lot size, it was key for our team to create a sense of space and incorporate statement features within the home and its outdoor spaces,” says Zoe

"Key features of its design include a generous gallery-style kitchen, open family room and designer ensuite, with the staircase and glass entry providing a ‘wow’ feature as you enter the home,” she says.
