Birdwatching at Greenwood Lakes
Location: Paradise Road, Forestdale
Make sure you grab your binoculars and a camera before visiting Greenwood Lakes, a former sand mine turned nature park. Located a 20-minute drive from Everleigh, the large lakes offer beautiful surroundings for a picturesque picnic, and plenty of opportunities for being active with a bushwalk. The most notable feature of Greenwood Lakes is the variety and abundance of birdlife. If you spot an unusual species, be sure to stay quiet and still while you take a photo (they scare easily!). Then enjoy looking up the name of the species and its history when you get home.
Colour Scavenger Hunt at Orion
Location: Orion Springfield Central, 1 Main Street Springfield
Putting Orion Springfield Central on your school holiday must-do list is a win-win for the whole family. Mum and dad can enjoy some retail therapy, while the kids keep busy with one of Orion’s school holiday activities. Get your kids burning energy (and hopefully score an early bedtime!) in a day spent outdoors exploring Spring Mountain Forest Park. Whether by foot or by mountain bike, there are plenty of trails to choose from, offering incredible views and glimpses of local fauna. Be sure to take a map and drinking water, it can be quite challenging depending on the trail taken.
