Greenbank gets ready for a Christmas Extravaganza

The Greenbank community is getting ready to welcome in the festive season with a bang, with one of the most popular events on the calendar, the annual Get Ready QLD - Christmas Fireworks Extravaganza, set to be even bigger this year.

The event - to be held on Saturday, December 1 - will feature a dazzling fireworks display, announcement of the 2018 Greenbank Community Hero and celebration of all things Christmas, including a much-anticipated visit by Santa.

 Organised by the Greenbank Rural Fire Brigade, and supported by leading property group Mirvac's Everleigh community, the event is also aligned with Get Ready Queensland, an initiative aimed at building resilience and knowledge around weather events. 

Following last year’s Get Ready QLD - Christmas Fireworks Extravaganza, which attracted record numbers of more than 1500 people, the event - to be held alongside the Greenbank Rural Fire Brigade station on Teviot Road - is expected to be even more popular this year.

A grand entrance by ‘the man in red’, Santa, will kick-start the celebrations at 5pm, with the night to include performances by the Greenbank State School choirs, a sausage sizzle and a variety of delicious food trucks and emergency service displays, before ending on a high with a spectacular fireworks show.   

Greenbank Rural Fire Brigade 1st Officer, Fabian Stangherlin, said the Get Ready QLD - Christmas Fireworks Extravaganza had been growing every year and he expected 2018 would be no exception. 

"Our aim is to create an event for families to engage with all emergency service all in one place, while also highlighting the importance of the Get Ready Queensland message," he said. 

“We will have plenty of displays for families, along with the opportunity to meet members of the Greenbank Fire Brigade, State Emergency Service (SES), Queensland Police and Ambulance service, and RACQ, to name a few. 

"We encourage everyone to come along and get involved. It is always a great night out."   

Enriching Communities Greenbank manager and founder of the Greenbank Community Hero Awards, Suzanne Guastini, said the event was highly anticipated by the residents of Greenbank, and the wider community.  

“We are excited to be announcing the recipient of the 2018 Greenbank Community Hero Award – an initiative which aims to recognise those who work tirelessly in our community," she said.  

“It is the second year we have held the awards and we have five fantastic nominees, including scout leader Stephanie Field, Greenbank Busy Bees Playgroup director Jade Cooper, Greenbank State School former P&C president Sharon Aldridge, veterinarian Glenn Geissler and the Jimboomba Rural Fire Brigade.  

“Each nominee is more than deserving and we have already received many votes – it’s too close to call, and I look forward to naming the winner on the night, along with taking part in the festivities.”

The Get Ready QLD - Christmas Fireworks Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, December 1 from 5pm to 8pm at the Greenbank Rural Fire Brigade, 133 Teviot Road, Greenbank.
