A collection of Queensland's leading home builders will put their designs on show in Greenbank, with a new display village set to open later this year at Everleigh.

Builders Metricon, Coral, Clarendon, Brighton, GJ Gardner, Plantation, Porter Davis, Bold Living and DBC are among those to secure a place in the new Everleigh Display Village, which will put a spotlight on the latest home design trends in south east Queensland.

Construction is now underway, but in the mean time Everleigh sales consultant Chris Reid gives the low-down on what you should think about before you visit and why heading to a display village is important in choosing a dream home that will make you and your family happy for years to come.

1. Know your budget
It is important to know what budget you have to work with before you start looking, so you can focus your attention on homes and homesites that are in your price range. There are plenty of home loan calculators available online to help you get a rough idea of what might work for you.

2. Come prepared

Before you step through the door of a display you should give consideration to how many bedrooms, bathrooms and living spaces you would like in your new home.  Think about what other features are important to you too - like a chef's kitchen, a large outdoor entertaining space or a kids' zone.  Start your journey with your end goal in mind!

3. Check out land
It is good to have an idea of the size and shape of the lot you are looking to build on, so you can choose a home design to match. When you visit a land estate, the team can help you understand the different options of lot sizes and what homes fit on which lots.

4. Step it out
Time to visit the display village! Now you have an idea of what homesites you like - and that are in your budget - you can narrow your search to display homes that suit. Having the opportunity to walk through a collection of homes all in one place will also help put perspective on the floor-plan and design that best suits your family - both now and into the future. While you're visiting, really think about how you would use the various spaces in the homes so you get the most bang for your buck.

5. Compare designs
You'll immediately know which designs resonate best with you - from facades, to colour schemes and finishes.  There's a lot of little decisions that go into building a brand new home, so this will help make all those choices a little bit easier, with the opportunity to see, feel and touch the different options available.

6. Check what's included
There are many opportunities to 'upgrade' to different fittings and finishes, so make sure you ask lots of questions and know what is included with the home design you're considering.

7. Take your time!

You may visit the display village - or your choice home - a few times before making a final decision.  Take brochures so you can reflect on the information you've been given when you're in the comfort of your home and, if you have any questions, write them down and make sure you cover-off on them before making a final decision.
